Taylor Family Summer Vacation 2008

I have been trying to figure out the best way to post the pictures of our vacation because I have SO many. I decided to go with a slide show if each day. Enjoy...

Day 1 ~ Everybody coming from the panhandle decided to make our house the halfway point to the beach. So they all drove in Sunday night. It was really fun having everyone over at the same time. We ate BBQ and played in the pool. Gwynie got to celebrate her birthday again with a bunch of presents from everyone who came in and those that stayed behind in Amarillo. It was a great way to start off a fun week!

Day 2 ~ We all packed up our cars and headed down in a caravan to Galveston. We got there about 5:30 that evening. After we unloaded the cars Lance & Grams made the maiden voyage to Wal-mart. Little did they know that we would end up making a trip to wal-mart every single day! The kids were anxious to get down to the beach. So, the first night we took them down and let the start collecting sea shells.

Day 3~ The first day in the ocean. The kids LOVED playing in the ocean. Gwynie was a little timid the first time, but after that she was always saying..I go swimmin'. The first day was pretty much the only day everybody got a bit too much sun. We kept reapplying, but is amazing how fast to sunscreen wears off. That night we celebrated Calvin's 10th birthday. His actual birthday was the day we were all leaving to head home, so Andy & Katy decided to give him his gifts a view days early so that he could play with them during the week.

Day 4 ~ Lance hurt his shoulder pretty bad on the 3rd night. After a trip to the emergency room early the next morning he found out that luckily it was just bruised. It still hurt pretty bad so he spent most of the 4th day hanging out it the house. The ocean was pretty crazy that day too, the waves were huge! So we didn't actually get in the ocean, we just went for a few walks on the beach. That evening we had our first big seafood dinner! It was delicious!!

Day 5 ~ We woke up early and got back into the caravan and drove to the Houston Zoo. This was Gwynie's 1st trip to a zoo, she loved it.

Day 6 ~ We spent the morning down on the beach flying a giant kite. The kids really had fun with it, but after a few minutes they were like...is that all it does? Lance was trying to make it do tricks, but it was just too windy. That afternoon our friends from college Michele & Jeff Anderson, their beautiful little girls and Michele's sister Liz came drove out from Houston to visit. All the kids had a blast playing with each other. That night we had a huge seafood feast. Grams & Grumps boiled shrimp and crabs! Eating fresh crabs is always a lot of work, but it was worth it because everything was SOOO good!

Just a few days before the trip Matt turned 21!!! So Grams & Grumps offered to watch the kiddos so we could all go out and celebrate. Everybody had a fun time!

Day 7~ We went out in the morning to do a little souvenir shopping. Grams gave each kiddo $5 to find something that they could remember the beach by. Gracie & Brylie both found necklaces and Gwynie found some little figurines at the Rainforest Cafe where we ate lunch. The rest of the day was spent feeding the seagulls, swimming and trying to hit Goober with water balloons.

Day 8 ~ Our final day at the beach. We spent the first part of the morning in the Taylor Family Vacation Photo Shoot. It's not easy taking pictures of such a large group and 4 separate cameras for each pose. We managed and got some great shots. The rest of the day was spent swimming in the ocean and playing in the sand. We only let the kids stay out about an hour at a time, but they we out there until it got too dark. We didn't want the vacation to end, but it ended anyway. Here are some pictures of our final day of vacation...

It was a great trip! Thank you Grams & Grumps for a WONDERFUL vacation!!!
