‘Love You Neighbor As Yourself’ Monday

I was introduced to a wonderful organization recently through the Women’s Bible Study that I attend at church.  This organization is a wonderful way that we can reach out in love to the youngest of our neighbors.  This week’s installment of ‘Love Your Neighbor as Yourself Monday’ is dedicated to:

Project Linus

Project Linus is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to comforting kids with security blankets. Their mission is two-fold. First, their mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”. Second, it is their mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children. The Project Linus website is packed with more information about the charity.

My Bible Study group has been collecting “no-sew” fleece blankets that will be used by all the Women of the congregation at our Women’s Conference.  As our service project during the conference we will be making these blankets and then donating them to our local Project Linus chapter.  I am “no-sew” kind of person {expect for a set of random Christmas outfits for my girls this past year} so I am looking forward to being able to support Project Linus in this way.

How we can help Project Linus serve our neighbors:

*Keep Project Linus And Our Young Neighbors They Serve in Your Prayers

*Become A "Blanketeer"

*Encourage Your Kids To Become “Blanketeers”

*Hold A Supply Drive With Your Church, Office Or Community Group

*Give Of Your Time At Your Local Chapter

*Start A Local Chapter In Your Area

*Donate Fabric And Sewing Supplies

*Donate Funds

*Sign Up To Received Their Online Quarterly Newsletter

*Follow Project Linus on Facebook

With Tender Loving Care

“Linus has a blanket that’s all his very own.
It comforts and sustains him when he’s feeling quite alone.
He knows that others love him for ’twas made with special care
And because it means so much to him, it’s carried everywhere.
You too can have a blanket that’s created just for you,
To comfort and support you when you’re feeling rather blue.
It’s yours to keep forever, so you may always know
That others out there love you and to you our wishes go.”

Gracie’s 1st Grade Class Picture

gracie's 1st grade class 2

I always like to purchase the group picture of the girls classes.  I think it will be neat when they get older to be able to look back and remember which classes they shared with friends {I know…the yearbook serves the same purpose}.  I removed the names that were listed {privacy reasons}, but just for the record…Gracelyn’s classmates will look back one day and be like “I always thought her name was “Gracelyn” this says “Grazelyn”.  Yep, her name is misspelled with a “Z” {that’s a first}.  Not a big deal, but I do need to call the school and make sure it gets spelled correctly for the yearbook.

“Rockin’ With The Chipettes”…Sort of

Lance was out of town for work this weekend and I wanted to do something fun with the girls.  I read online that the Chipettes were coming to the mall.  The article said that you could rock out with the Chipettes while they teach you the dance steps to their favorite song.  They girls LOVE the “All The Single Ladies” song that the Chipettes sang in the movie {I don’t think they have any idea who Beyonce is and if you ask them who sings “all the single Ladies” they will say the Chipettes} so I thought it would be fun to go.  When we got there they were setting up and the girls were pretty excited.

dsc_0002 (2)I got there early thinking that there would be a huge crowd {not to sure why} so we ended up waiting for quite a while, I guess the audio wasn’t working so great for them or something because you could tell that it was taking them a little longer to set-up than they wanted.  The girls were good sports having to wait that long.

dsc_0004 (2)Okay, this isn’t your typical “awe, I could just eat them up” picture.  There are no smiles and they look bored {which they were because we had been waiting about 40 minutes by this point} but I love it because this is how they chose to wait…with Gwynie sitting on Gracie’s lap.  So as their Mom this picture does make me say “awe, I could just eat them up”!!!

After about 45 minutes the event starts to show signs of life!  They started handing out balloons and I could see the back-up dancers beginning to warm up.

dsc_0005 (2)They started the song over one more time and out came the back-up dancers to get everyone pumped up.

dsc_0006 (2) After about 2 minutes of dancing they introduced themselves as “Brittany” and “Jeanette” {What?!?}.   Yep, these two ladies were going to be the Chipettes.  I am guessing that “Eleanor” called in sick. They were lovely girls who were very talented dancers but I think you can tell by the expressions and body language of the other people in the picture that this is NOT what we were expecting.  I don’t know, I guess I had pictured big furry costumes and the whole bit.  It was a free event to promote the movie being released to DVD, so I am not too sure why I thought it would be some big production.

dsc_0007 (2)We hung around for their first performance.  The Chipettes invited all the kiddos to join them to learn the routine, but the girls weren’t feeling it.  {Funny side note: they were requiring the parents to sign a waiver if your child wanted to dance and learn the routine. I am sure you have to do that sort of thing these days, but it just seemed silly to me}. I think if I came across the event while already at the mall it would have been great, but to know about it for a couple of weeks and to change plans around to make sure we could be there…well, it left a bit to be desired.

We left the show and went around the corner to Build-a-Bear.  We have never made a build-a-bear before.  I guess Gracie made one at a party once, but Gwynie had never been.dsc_0008 (2)

  dsc_0010 (2)      dsc_0012 (2)  dsc_0014 (2)    dsc_0015 (2)dsc_0016 (2)

Build-a-bear was a hit! They kept with the Chipmunk theme and Gracie picked “Alvin” and Gwynie picked “Brittany”.  We finished our morning with a early lunch in the food court and had a cookie while watching the ice skaters.

Gracie had softball practice and pictures in the afternoon {the wind was CRAZY, so it I am anxious to see how the pictures turned out}

img_0086 (2)After pictures we rushed over to church to try to catch the end of the movie night they were having for the kiddos.  15696_1393262477920_1422915086_31063288_1353155_nWe made it just in time for the second feature.  The girls got to have popcorn, hotdogs and juice while they watched the show.  They REALLY enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next movie night.

We missed having Daddy with us for the weekend, but we had a great time!

Gwynie’s Western Day

Gwynie has been studying the State of Texas this week at school.  Her teachers decided to end the week with “Western Day”.  She was super excited because she got to wear her pink boots!

DSC_0054 (2) Nana & Paw Paw gave her these boots for her birthday last year.  We haven’t had too many opportunities to wear them {except for the random trips to the grocery store and out to dinner when she decides to put them on} so she was thrilled to be able to wear them to school!

‘Love Your Neighbor As Yourself’ Monday

The past few weeks my girls have really enjoyed collecting loose change to help feed our neighbors in need.  It’s a neat service project they are doing through Sunday School.  I had not heard of it before they brought the project home, so I thought it was a great one to post. This week’s installment of ‘Love Your Neighbor as Yourself Monday’ is dedicated to:

Rice Bowls TM

Started in 1980 in Spartanburg, SC, Rice Bowls is a faith based non-profit organization that seeks to provide food for the body and spirit of orphans in the name of Christ. That look to do so through orphanages around the world that are intentional in seeking for each child to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and then in discipling each child to live lives that will be a joy and delight to the Lord.

Rice Bowls is one of the easiest ways for an organization (church, school, business, or community group) to have an impact on the escalating orphan crisis around the world. The small bowls are provided at no cost to you. When filled with change, the funds from Rice Bowls supply much needed food to a strong network of loving, Christian Orphanages. They work directly with these orphanages, which are currently in India, Haiti, and Sub-Saharan Africa, where the HIV/AIDS crisis, as well as other factors, have greatly marginalized the lives of children.

I encourage you to go to the Rice Bowls website and learn more about their History, Values and Beliefs. They also have answers to questions like: What Are Rice Bowls?, Why Use Rice Bowls? and How Does It Work?

Each of my daughters brought home a Rice Bowl from church.  They have gathered all the loose change around the house and look forward to bringing their coin filled Rice Bowls back to church on Easter Sunday!

How we can help Rice Bowls serve our neighbors:

*Keep Rice Bowls Program in Your Prayers

*Keep Our Neighbors That Have, That Are And That Will Be Helped By Rice Bowls In Your Prayers

*Order Rice Bowls For Your Church, School, Business or Community Group

*Donate Funds

*Sign-up To Receive Monthly Updates From Rice Bowls Via Email

First Day of Spring?!?

This was the Spring scene we woke up to this morning:

DSC_0041 (2)

What? Crazy!  We live in Texas and THIS is a picture of the first day of Spring. We got over 5 inches in MARCH!  I don’t have any pictures of the girls playing in the snow because they were both getting over bronchitis, but I wanted to make sure to document this Spring phenomenon.

In true Texas style, the snow didn’t even last through the day. I don’t have any memory of getting snow this late in the year before. It was a pleasant surprise!

Gracie’s First Concert – Taylor Swift

A few months back Tamie and Lauren called and invited Gracie and I to go to the Taylor Swift concert with them. We were excited, but would had a long time to wait. It felt like years but the day finally came and it was time to take Gracie to her very first concert!

Gracie had a hair appointment that day and I decided not to cancel but to go ahead and fit it in to the day.  So I picked her up at school and took her to the salon.  I asked them to go ahead and straighten her hair because I wouldn’t have time to fix it at home before we had to go to the concert.  Her hairdresser was so excited when she heard that Gracie was going to the Taylor Swift concert that she said she just HAD to do Taylor Swift girls on Gracie.  I let Gracie pick straight or curly. She picked curly and I am glad she did because it turned out so cute.

DSC_0004 (2)Just incase you were wondering, if you want to have “Taylor Swift Curls” it takes a contraption that looks like a cross between a curling iron and those things that people use to guide planes on the tarmac. I had never seen anything like it. But I digress.

Gracie and I picked Tamie & Lauren up at their house.  Here are a few shots before we headed out.

DSC_0005 (2)

 DSC_0009 (2) DSC_0014 (2)

We were all anxious to get to the concert but thought it best to eat dinner out by us so we didn’t run into the rest of the concert crowd trying to have dinner before the concert.  Here are the girls enjoying dinner at Celebrity.

DSC_0016 (2)

So it was finally time to head to the concert. The girls were so silly in the car singing Taylor Swift songs and giggling out of control.  Tamie and I were surprised by how quickly and smoothly we were able to get inside the American Airlines Center.  We were prepared to sit in the car waiting in lines, but we didn’t {well we did later, but I will talk about that in a bit}. So here it the first picture of the girls inside at the concert.  I love this picture because you can see how excited they were!DSC_0023 (2)

We were so lucky that Tamie & Scott had found us floor seats for the concert! {Tamie even went to get the tickets when she was super sick…which turned out to be swine flu, poor thing}.  Since this was her first concert, I kept telling Gracie that these may be once in a lifetime seats in the hopes that she would understand what a privilege it was to be sitting where we were {this was the first time I ever had floor seats}.  After we got settled in Lauren was just so excited that she stood up in the walkway in front of us and just started busting a move to the song {All The Single Ladies} they were playing before the concert started.

DSC_0041 (2) DSC_0033 (2) DSC_0032 (2)

She was really grooving.  These pictures don’t do it justice, but luckily Tamie got a little video clip that she can share with Lauren many years from now {HA!}.

I think Gracie was in sensory overload when we first got there.  But after the first song she joined Lauren in their little dance party.

DSC_0035 (2) DSC_0043 DSC_0038 (2)

We got to see a new band name Gloriana and Kelly Pickler who were the opening acts.  They were great to watch, but it was time for THE Show!

DSC_0205 (2) Here are a few shots from the concert {of course I took way too many…what else is new}.

Here is one of all four of us during the concert!

Gracie wanted to take a few pictures of her own:

Okay so this where the {for sure} once in a lifetime part takes place.  Tamie had been to this concert the first time the tour came through Dallas back in September.  When we found our seats she pointed out that Taylor Swift was going to be on this little stage about 20 feet from us down our row!  That was exciting enough but then she asked and found out that we could go over there a watch that part of the concert right by Taylor Swift!!!  The girls {and I} couldn’t believe it.  So we heard them say she would go down there after here 4th song so as soon as the 4th song was over we were right there in front of the little stage {I have to add that we did go one song earlier, but were asked to wait until one more song was over.  We did, but still got spots right in front of the stage}. Then when we look up we can see Taylor Swift making her way down the stairs, through the crowd.  She was signing autographs and hugging fans…pretty cool.

DSC_0096 DSC_0099 (2)

DSC_0101 (2)

And before we knew it BAM…she was RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!!!

26338_1382699245003_1157634592_1151284_5357551_n

I don’t typically get star struck but thought it was pretty awesome to be able to hear and see her perform that close.  The girls were on cloud nine!  Gracie saw Taylor Swift look at her once and that just made her night!

So it was time for the concert to come to an end.  It was a pretty cool finale and Gracie and Lauren were LOVING the confetti.  There was SO much of it.  I can’t even imagine how long it takes to clean all that up.

DSC_0182 (2) 26338_1382698884994_1157634592_1151276_6979726_n

DSC_0196 (2)

We headed back to the car where we pulled out and waited {20 minutes or so} to get out of the parking garage.  That was really the hiccup of the night and was to be expected.  You can only empty a parking garage so fast.  The was an impromptu Taylor Swift karaoke performance by what sounded like about a hundred Taylor Swift fans trying to make the best of the time they were stuck in the parking garage.

DSC_0207 (2)I know this is a long post, but it was a really fun night and I wanted to try to capture as much of it as I could.  Thank you  so much to Lauren & Tamie for the invitation.  It was a great concert with great friends that I know we will always remember!!
